St Joseph’s is an inclusive Catholic educational community which fosters a unique sense of family. Every child is known and valued by all staff and we work closely with families to ensure that all children are catered for. Through quality teaching centred on Jesus our, students are engaged and confident learners who make a positive impact on society.
St Joseph's promotes 21st century learning, giving students access to electronic resources including SMART Board technology, laptops and iPads in all classrooms and video conferencing and virtual classrooms. Students are also encouraged to engage creatively in extra-curricular pursuits such as coding and simple robotics.
Targeted literacy and numeracy programs are incorporated to ensure successful learning and there are also further opportunities for students in public speaking, ICAS competitions and a dynamic leadership program designed to prepare Year 5 and 6 students for high school.
Students have the opportunity to engage with the creative arts through music, drama and visual arts. Students are invited to participate in the school choir and ukulele group. Students can also join the arts club, audition for ASPIRE, create exhibits for local events and participate in the school’s gifted and talented art day. Drama has been embedded into the learning program and culminates in theÌýJoey’s Annual Festival of Arts (JAFA)Ìýdrama evening at the Manning Entertainment Centre, which allows students to express themselves and showcase their talents.
The sports program at St Joseph’s aims to increase opportunities for students to be more active, build proficiency in fundamental movement skills and promote healthy living. All students have the opportunity to compete at representative level through various pathways and have access to school sports such as hockey, cricket, basketball, tennis, AFL, rugby league, cross country, swimming, athletics, netball, soccer and gymnastics. St Joseph’s is also proud to host a Regional Netball Gala Day and gives students the opportunity to join the school fitness program,ÌýHealth HustleÌýto improve dance and gross motor skills.
St Joseph’s fosters environmental awareness and sustainability through a number of community initiatives including the incorporation of solar electricity, vegetable gardens, worm farms, water tanks and composting. Students are taught how to mulch, plant, grow and harvest seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as recycle and compost, increasing student connection with and awareness of nature and environmental issues.
St Joseph’s has a comprehensive pastoral care agenda including the provision of a pastoral care worker who is available to assist and support students, families and staff through the Seasons for Growth program.
Students of St Joseph's Primary School, Wingham are encouraged to continue their Catholic education for Years 7 to 12 by attending St Clare's High School, Taree.
